New patients
What to expect
A first visit at Riverside Dental is sixty minutes. The kid version is forty-five.
Your first visit
- Paperwork before you arrive. We email the new-patient packet when you book; bring it filled out, or arrive ten minutes early and we will have a clipboard ready.
- Bitewing and panoramic x-rays. Unless you bring current ones from a previous dentist (we’ll request them on your behalf if you tell us where).
- Cleaning. Aisha’s the lead hygienist and she’ll do most new-patient cleanings unless your prior records suggest periodontal work, in which case we’ll schedule a longer visit.
- Exam and treatment plan. Dr. Chen or Dr. Patel comes in for the exam, walks through what they see, and writes the treatment plan if any work is needed. The plan is line-itemed with the procedure code, our fee, and what your insurance is likely to cover.
- Questions. We do not run on a clock. If you have a question that takes ten minutes to answer, ask it.
Insurance
We are in-network with most major PPO plans on the Eastside: Delta Dental, Premera Blue Cross, Regence BlueShield, Cigna, MetLife, Aetna, United Concordia. We are not in-network with any HMO/DMO plan. If your plan is not on the list, we are usually still a covered out-of-network provider — call us with your member ID and we will check before your visit.
For patients without insurance, we offer a flat-rate annual membership: $420/year covers two cleanings, exam, x-rays, and a 15% discount on any other procedure. Most patients without insurance save several hundred dollars a year this way vs. buying individual visits at our standard fees.
Payment
Cash, check, all major cards, HSA/FSA cards. For treatment plans over $1,200, we offer no-interest in-house payment plans (3–6 months) and CareCredit for longer terms. We do not run dental-financing pitches at the front desk; if you want financing we will hand you the brochure, and if you do not, we will not bring it up again.
Records from a prior dentist
If you have a previous dentist, we can request your records — x-rays, treatment history, perio charting — on your behalf. Most offices send records within a week. This usually saves you a fresh round of x-rays and gives us context on any work you’ve had done. Tell us at booking and we will handle the request.
Anxious about the dentist?
Tell us when you book. We will schedule extra time, walk you through what we are about to do before we do it, and we will not start any procedure you have not agreed to. Dr. Patel handles most apprehensive-patient cases and is good at it; if oral sedation is the right answer, we will tell you, and we will not push it if it is not.
